Chinese New Year Heartland Stalls

Yesterday, my wife and I braved the rain to buy Chinese New Year decorations at 2 heartland areas in the East. The offerings by the store in these heartland areas can rival those offered by Chinatown and the variety can also exceed what is offered by Chinatown. Price wise, the heartland give competitive prices too.

A rainy Chinese New Year?

I woke up to the incessant fall of rain. It was raining throughout midnight till morning, and even at this point of my writing, it was still raining.

I welcome rain, but not close to Chinese New Year. Rain will prove too inconvenient for many doing all the purchasing of Chinese New Year goods. One would need to bring umbrella, jostle with some crowds and batter with the rain and some puddles of water. I think if the rain were to continue, outdoor Chinese New Year businesses, the like of Chinatown will be affected because everyone would be avoiding outdoors and choose to patronize indoor shopping malls too.

Chinese Zodiacs in the Year of the Rabbit 2011

In this post, I would like to share with you your zodiacs for the coming Year of the Rabbit 2011. Sorry, I am not an astrologer or a well-regarded Fengshui master, what I can do is to share with you some of the Fengshui for your Chinese Zodiac in the Year of the Rabbit 2011 through the links I have come across.

Online maps PK Locality Maps.. who wins?

I was at a rather ulu MRT station on the Circle Line today, running my errands. As I was walking back to the MRT station after my errand, a little boy, who looked like 9 or 10 years of age ran to me, asking me for the location of a church.

The highly anticipated $5.8 million TOTO CNY reunion draw was finally conducted. 8 winners share the $5.8 million prize. They are very lucky people and should now be doubly celebrating the coming Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year Visit to Chinatown

I was with my wife at Chinatown just a few days ago, absorbing in the sights and sounds of the red-hot Chinatown during the Chinese New Year festivities.
Being a weekday, the lanes were generally not crowded, so we had ease navigating along the Chinatown lane.

What I will do if I win the $5 million TOTO draw on 28 Jan 11

New millionaires will be minted this coming Friday when the $5 million TOTO draw takes place. Normally this kind of grand draw will attract the number of punters multiple size of the norm. Hence I believe there will be more than 1 winner and the pie will get smaller with that. Nevertheless, I am still placing a bet in the draw as doing so will still give me a chance to win the coveted sum, no matter how minute that possibility will be! If one does not buy, then he will have no chance at all.

Healing blogs

As reported in the newspapers yesterday, a growing number of patients have taken to blogging to document their daily fight against their conditions.

As an avid blogger, I recognise how blogs can serve as a form of catharsis to all people, regardless of their backgrounds. Blogs can serve as powerful viaducts for emotions as well as for the need to share for people.

Went Dentist today

I make it a habit to see the dentist every year before Chinese New Year. I know this is not recommended as we are told to see the dentist every half-yearly. So when the dentist scaled and polished my teeth today, he noticed a food stuck between my teeth.

MM Lee: Singapore is not a Nation

For many years, I have been singing the National Anthem, only to read today that MM Lee said that Singapore is not a Nation, yet. I spent an hour or so reading all the articles in today's newpapers and that of yesterday to read what our founding father has to say about Singapore.

No winner for Roti Prata in Singapore Hawker Contest

There is no winner for any roti prata stall in the Singapore's hawker contest. I am surprised and perturbed for there is a good array of delicious roti pratas served by stalls floating around.

Flu epidemic in the making?

With the recent anomaly in weather: cold temperatures and floods ravaging countries, bird flu seems to return! Japan is now culling its bird flock to thwart the spread of bird flu.

The day I paid homage to my IPPT shuttle run

Today, I paid homage to my IPPT shuttle run. I used to dread my IPPT shuttle run. I did still okay in my IPPT, my timing could be 10.3 second or at the very worst, 10.7 second, but I still manage to do well in my IPPT last year. Today, I paid homage to my IPPT shuttle run.

The day I become Robinson Crusoe

Today, after work, I was transformed immediately into Robinson Crusoe! Why is that so? How does a working adult like me transform into a Robison Crusoe on our island called Singapore? Did I lost my way while crossing the sea to Sentosa and land up on one of the islands off Singapore?

Best Shopping Centre in Singapore: Vivocity Shopping Centre and Parkway Parade!

Nex Shopping centre has a very unique concept. Nex, to me, is quite similar to Malaysian Jusco concept and true enough, when I researched more on the shopping centre, this shopping centre is developed by Malaysian developers!

End of the world in 2012 or a new World Order? The coming of the future Buddha

Switching on the television, I found myself right in the middle of the plot of the movie "2012"! News broadcasting the floods devastating Brazil, Sri Lanka and Australia greeted me, these news came on the heels of recent news of harsh winter the Northern hemisphere experienced some weeks ago.

The earth is really sick. I mean natural anomalities seem to be occuring very very frequently. There was a volcanic eruption in Indonesia some weeks earlier too. And back in Singapore, we are experiencing very cold January these days.

Is this the omen that the end of the earth, as what believers of the Mayan Doomsday theory predicted, is soon upon us on 12 Dec 2012? Interestingly enough, US researchers discovered that an ailen ship is heading towards Earth and will arrive on 12 Dec 2012!

Would that day be the end of the world? I do not think so. What I think is that that would be a new world order. As a Buddhist, I believe there is still time for the world. The future Buddha, Buddha Maitreya has not arrived yet, he would arrive when Dharma is forgotten in the realm of human.

I have read that the proportion of Buddihists in Singapore has decreased. I believe that a new world order is in the making. The world is now very chaotic these days... man-made and natural. Dharma has been forgotten by many, including my colleagues who hatch evil plots, who suck up to bosses and carry balls of directors and tell evil untrue stories of better capable colleagues like me to them. The world is full of very evil people these days bullying the good-natured and dilligent folks. Promiscuity, greed and all the sins of the human are on the rise.

I think that as a result of the declining morality of human, mother nature is ill too. There would be a new world order. Kindness and Love should soon grow in this world. Evil doers like my colleagues and some of the people I know would be punished. The universal laws of Karma would still be relevant in this changing world.

Folks, if you are moral and honest like me but are still being harmed by others, never give up but still persist towards your goals. I believe like me, you would be amply rewarded and all the evil doers would be punished.

Why many Singaporeans would be recycling on Chinese New Year Day?

Chinese New Year is around the corner. In the past, Mediacorp would feature new great exciting Chinese movies but in recent years, it has been disappointing.
I have watched on Chinese New Year days movies on Mediacorp's chinese channels which I have watched on previous Chinese New Year years ago! Today, a trailer for Mediacorp's movies to be telecasted on the coming Chinese New Year days caught my eyes.... alamak.. "Shi Sheng" starring Stephen Chow! I have watched it countless time at many Chinese New Year days already and this film has been "recycled" many many times already! Mediacorp should not crimp during Chinese New Year. It should show new shows and exciting films on such annual great festive seasons!

Sabotage

It has been some time since I last dined in the airport. I like to go airport as it is a stress buster to me with its tranquil environment.

Bedok Point

I went to Bedok Point today. Bedok Point is one of the newest shopping centres in Singapore. Bedok Point is the only shopping centre in Bedok. Much has been touted and advertised about Bedok Point in the newspapers.

The day I turned emotional

By now, the world should have heard of Susan Boyle. When she first appeared for audition, she was met with skepticism, being criticised for her age, appearance and dress sense. Her dream of being one of American's top singers was met with unbelief.

But when she started to sing, the critics were stunned. Gaps of awe, thunders of applause soon ensued. Click here.

A Jewel buried deep in the mud

Some people have lots of potential but talent, however they are in the wrong environments, and hence they never shine but are buried deep in the mud. It is regrettable.

Cold Weather

I used to enjoy cold weather but it seems a tad cold these few nights with continuous rain. It is known that very cold weather makes people pessimistic and some statistics point to a high suicide rate in countries with long cold seasons.

cofFEED

I do not like to drink coffee in the past but since I have to wake up earlier now, I have to drink coffee to enable me to stay awake during work.

1st week of the New Year 2011 has passed

The first week of a brand new year 2011 has passed. I still recall one week earlier, the whole world is ushering in a brand new year. Time really flies! Today, I asked about a young cousin whom I last seen as a toddler but I was surprised to learn that he is now in Primary School! So it was some tens of years that I have last seen him!

Time really flies and I am getting older as well. Today, I bumped into a ex-JC friend, our eyes met but we did not speak to each other after having not seen others for tens of years. We were not close during schooling then, and hence it seemed awkward that we would to speak tens of years later. Hence we walked passed away each other.

From my experience, as one gets older, it is harder to have good lasting friends. As time passes, everyone is busy with his or her endeavours or activities, hence friendship will wane after sometimes unless one meet very often. To me, it is okay not to have too many friends because I do not have time for them as well. I do not have time to sit around talking with them, time is too much of essence to me, to achieve my goals in this fast paced society.

Pigeon-holed

Today I finally know the feeling of pigeon-holed. As I was walking to the MRT, a pigeon flew so close to me that I could feel its fluttering wings just touching my scalp. I feel that I am pigeon-holed!

First Work Day of 2011

Today is the first work day of year 2011. Students are lucky, they get to go to school only tomorrow. The first day of the year at work is important, if you can say that I am superstitious. Lucky, today’s work day turned out well. I am soaked in work from morning to night. I hope to have more career luck and be recognised for the work I have put in over these years.

2011 Singapore Marina Bay Countdown

My wife and I had just returned from the Marina Bay Countdown to year 2011. Yes, now we are still awake at this time of 3.08 am, the early hours of year 2010. I believe the whole of Singapore, its citizens, Permanent Residents and foreign talents are still celebrating till tomorrow morning. When we took the train at the deep hour of 1.30 am, the train was so packed. When the thousands of crowd dispersed from the Marina Bay area after the midnight fireworks, it was so crowded to walk to the nearest MRT station. My wife and I took an hour just to get to the Promenade MRT Station. We did not complain as we chose our own detour, those who travelled via the path directed by the marshals would get back home much later.

This year is the first year that the whole of the Marina Bay attractions are opened for the countdown. The crowd who gathered at Marina Bay was not smaller. There were simply thousands and thousands of people around my wife and I when we gathered to sit at the Promenade near to 11pm. There, we sat till 12 am, awaiting for the grand fireworks display
