These days, many websites have facebook pages for readers to "Like" or subscribe. The businesses post regular updates on their facebook pages which are checked regularly by their subscribers. I think the common use of Facebook Pages in this manner, is akin to Google RSS subscriber that is to update readers with news.
I find it not common for Singapore netizens to have a Google Reader account or subscribing to RSS feeds of the websites and blogs they love. Hence business are targeting Facebook to keep their readers, most of whom have a Facebook account updated via a Facebook Page instead.
