Despites the millions of dollars pumped into increasing the railways of our MRT network, I think there is no improvement at all in the system as the increased coverage still fails to meet the huge travelling demand of passengers.
Our MRT trains are congested at every hour of the time. With the extended railway, while commuter can save some minutes in travelling an alternative shorter route from one destination to another, if a train he would want to board is crowded, the time he may have to spend waiting for another train with sufficient space for him to board may be no less the time he can save, hence there is no improvement at all if we were to view in this aspect.
Also, twenty years ago, a train from Pasir Ris to Boon Lay takes 50 minutes, fast forward to today, the same travel also takes 50 minutes; while the MRT authorities has extended the rail route into many other lines like the North East Line, the Circle Line and the up and coming Downtown line, there still seems that there is no way that the travel time for a passenger travelling from Pasir Ris to Boon Lay can be shortened.
