Recently there has been much debate over the increasing need
of tuition to be deemed compulsory by parents for their kids from as young as
Primary 1. There has also been letters to the press that the tuition centres
here are outdoing one another by coming out with extra-difficult questions for
the students. In this regards, I think our education system has failed. We
should not train students to solve the most difficult problems; we should train
our students to ask the most difficult questions.
Having come so far myself, despite getting brilliant grades
in school, I find most of the things I have studied not being used at work. At
the most, all the training I have undergone in school has sharpened my
analytical and reasoning skills, but that is at most all of it. I do not think
our school has prepared students well for the school of life.
