The Singapore Science Festival, previously known as the Science Month (2001 to 2009 – titled science.01 to science.09), is Singapore’s biggest annual science event.
The new name was chosen to better reflect the aim of the Festival as a celebration of Science and Technology for everyone, young and old alike. This year, more than 100 events, seminars and shows have been lined up over three weeks to provide an exciting and engaging time for youths, adults and families.
Jointly organised by the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR) and the Science Centre Singapore, the Singapore Science Festival is an annual national event celebrating the dynamism of science, engineering, technology and biomedicine.
The Festival takes on a new focus and theme this year. Last year, we sought to encourage people’s natural curiosity by having them ask a fundamental question that drives all scientific enquiry - “Ask Why.” This year, we hope to encourage them to go a step further and discover the answers to their own questions through simple experiments, research and first-hand observations, hence this year’s theme, “Know Why”.
