Is Sun Ho's music career worth $22 million

In the ongoing court case involving Kong Hee, it was released that $22 million has been channeled to help Sun Ho's music career. I am not sure how it has helped Sun Ho as I still think Sun Ho is still not popular in the US despites even having the support of her church members. Local female singers like Kit Chan, Sun Yan Zi, Tanya Chua and Oliva Ong are seemed more famous and they are also invited to sing National Day songs.

Howard Shaw was jailed before

I was quite shocked to read in national newspapers some days ago that Howard Shaw has been jailed before for drink driving some years back.  I always thought Howard is quite a nice fellow, well-spoken, articulate and has a squeaky clean image who is fortunate to be born into the influential and immensely wealthy family of the Shaw.

Ipads and office work

In this era, working is equated to looking at computer screens. With ipads, I think there are many people who surf net and do their own things while at work and it is hard for bosses to catch them.

Mediacorp should broadcast Eurocup 2012 Semi- Finals and Finals

It is really very disappointing that Mediacorp does not broadcast any of the semi-final and final matches of Eurocup 2012. In the previous Eurocup and World Cup matches, Mediacorp broadcasted at least the semi-finals and the finals; even this arrangement was scrapped off now.

Germany lost 1-2 to Italy in Eurocups 2012

Germany finally lost its winning streak as it bowed down to Italy in a 1-2 semi-final match. I already have predicted that Germany will lose to Italy in this semi-finals.

For the finals between Italy and Spain on Sunday, it is hard to tell which country will be the winner.

Bugis+

Bugis + is the new name of Illuma shopping centre located near Bugis MRT station. I visited Bugis + this afternoon and found that the redesigned shopping centre is really much better than the shopping centre was when it was still Illuma. Still crowds can still be improved.

Train Songs you can listen while on MRT

Riding on the MRT train can be quite a very unhappy thing for most Singaporeans: overcrowding, no seats, slow moving train, halting movement of the train and some disruptions.

The Maths of Kong Hee

Yesterday night, when I switched on the TV to tune in to the news of the day, I was immediately greeted by the top news of the day: Pastor Kong Hee of City Harvest church was arrested with 4 other church members for misappropriations of the church funds! Then the TV detailed, using infographics how the alleged misused funds flowed from one account to the other account and how the funds split into parts and even more parts which then flowed from one account into another or others.

Tasteless Soya bean milk

Some days ago, I paid $1.60 for each of two cups of soya bean milk bought from a famous soya bean milk chain outlet. I was horrified to taste the beverage: the taste was more tasteless than water. At this price, I could get 2 great tasting soya bean milk from a hawker centre!

Two uncles fight on SBS bus

After an old woman and a young lady quarreled fiercely on the MRT, this time it is two uncles fighting on a SBS bus.

This time round, as it involved men, there is some real action as you can see later on the video below.

Portugal 1 Czech Republic 0: Euro 2012 Quarter-Finals

Old Woman and Young Lady Quarrels Over Priority Seat in MRT Station on 18 Jun 12 6.30pm

An old  woman quarreled with a young lady in MRT station on Monday 18 Jun 12 around 6.30pm.
I watched the youtube video clip embedded below and I think the old auntie was not happy that the young lady gave up seat to her only after sometime and after some "staring" as alleged by the old lady.

What has Hair Loss got to do with Eurocup?

The Eurocup is entering into the quarter-final stage. Of all the teams, Germany is the one which has impressed me thus far and I am happy that all the bets I have wagered on Germany reap good returns for me! However, when it comes to meeting Greece in the quarter-finals later, I reckon it will be a tough fight. Greece has won Germany before and in the coming match, Greeks may fight with a gusto engendered by their people to show their unhappiness with Germany for implementing austerity measures on Greece.

Will Howard Shaw be another Woffles Wu?

Howard Shaw, ex-Executive Director of the Singapore Environment Council is one of the 48 men who faced charges with having sex with a minor. Yesterday, Howard’s lawyer said that there is a range of discretion of punishments which can be meted out by the judge, from a fine to a jail term of several years. Howard’s case is special as he stood out as one of the most prominent Singaporeans to be charged - Howard hails from a very wealthy, well-connected and reputable family.

Too tired

Every weekday, I come back home very tired. I am tired from looking at the computer screen for hours everyday. Actually men are having more health problems than before due to a sedentary lifestyle prevalent of modern work, an unhealthy cocktail of frequent fast food and MSG-laden food, too much radiation from the myriads of mobile and internet gadgets and lastly stress!

Double Standard in reporting of ex-SCDF and ex-CNB sex corruption cases

I perceive a double standard in the reporting of the sex-linked corruption cases involving SCDF's ex-chief, Peter Lim and CNB's ex-chief, Ng Boon Gay:

a) For Lim's, the places where the oral and actual sex between Peter and the 3 ladies were widely reported but the place where Cecilia Sue performed the oral sex on Ng was not revealed.

Web 1.0, Web 2.0 and now Mobile

The internet has 3 stages since its inception. In the first stage, companies which does a great job of organizing the world's information comes to the fore: think Google, Yahoo, MSN.

In the second stage, social relationships are the buzzwords of the day: think Facebook and the myriads of social networking websites on the internet.

Germany vs Denmark

Germany will face off Denmark next Monday early morning. Singapore's pool for Germany is at 1.6. This is a good odd considering that Germany is one of the best teams in this championship final and has delivered a sterling record of goals in this league.

Too many commuters causing train glitches?

It was reported that a man has fallen into the gap between the train and the platform, this incident came right after a woman has similarly found herself trapped in the platform gap.If I am correct, the width of the platform gap has not changed (aka increased) since the commencement of MRT services in Singapore and hence why is there an increasing number of people finding themselves stuck in the platform gap?

Super Hot Weather

The weather these days is super and extremely hot and humid. This is due to the fact that Singapore is experiencing the seasonally dry climate characteristics of June and July. I have to turn on the aircon in order for my family to sleep. My house becomes a green house in the afternoon!

Thank You

My tea's gone cold, I'm wondering why
I got out of bed alone
The morning rain clouds up my window
And I can't see at all
And even if I could it' d all be grey
But your picture on my wall it reminds me
That it's not so bad, it's not so bad

Lao Ban Soya Beancurd vs 51 Soya Bean

I have eaten Lao Ban Soya Beancurd and 51 Soya Bean; of the two, I believe Lao Ban Soya Beancurd is still the better Soya Bean as 51 Soya Bean is less tasty, less fragant and more watery. What do you think?

Euro Champ Singapore Pools Soccer Betting

Today's midnight, Germany thrashed Netherlands 2-1. I watched the first 2 goals of Germany in the first half of the soccer match before switching my internet off and went back to sleep. I am sad; its not that I am sad that Germany has won but I am sad of my wallet!

You see, right from the start of this Euro Champ league, I have been an active punter, betting on quite a number of matches. I won some, did not win some, and as of today, I am $60 in the red!

Health Scare

These few days, I have been experiencing from an unknown and mysterious pain on my big toe. Initially I thought that I might have kicked my foot on the wall while sleeping but as days went and the pain did not subside, I felt that the cause of the pain may be something else.  The pain was quite nerve-cracking and hence I began to be scared, scared that I may be contracting something more insidious than an external superficial knock.

PC Show: regulating the escalator flow

I went to PC show today on this last day of the exhibition. After I have stepped out of the MRT station and was about to enter the convention hall building, I found myself stuck in a human traffic jam which was not moving. Looking beyond the many heads in front of me, I saw a huge sign displayed across the signboard stating that the escalator flow is regulated for a better visitor experience.

This is the first time I see something of a measure like this but I feel this is a good move.

Civil servants to get 0.3 months of bonus in July

Civil servants will get 0.3 months of bonus in July; this is 0.2 months lower than the bonus payout of last year. This lower bonus is due to the state of the macro economy and I can only say that this is reasonable. While to many ordinary civil and public servants, 0.3 months may not be great; but if you were to apply this 0.3 month bonus to the salaries of the top leadership of Civil Service: namely the Permanent Secretaries, the CEOs and the elite Administrative Service and the Management Associate scheme, then the bonus payout works out to be quite good!

Time to stay firm in office

I have always been a nice guy at the office this has both pros and cons. The pros are that I do not engage in confrontation with colleagues; the cons are that sometimes people really go too far. Just some days ago, I decided to stay firm and refuse a request that is really too much from a colleague. Being firm and sometimes being fierce can earn respect at the workplace as I find out. Being a good man is not necessary good; it can make one look weak in the eyes of Management. I have decided to be firm and steady or be more firm and steady.

Did not get NDP tickets once again

Yesterday or the day before was the closing day for the notification of successful applicants of this year’s NDP tickets. I did not receive any notification and hence I was disappointed; yet again. This year is the 13th consecutive year which I did not manage to get any tickets despites applying for the tickets every year.

Greece results in Eurocups Championships and Greece election results

I have never been to Greece; however since young, I have always been fascinated by Greek mythologies, legends and heroes. Only last year, like many other investors, Greece once again surfaced on our “radars” for Greece may be the country which will precipitate the likelihood of the global economy entering into recession: come 17 Jun and we shall find out!

Upgrading, upgrading and upgrading

As I stepped out of my house this morning and was about to take the lift, I noticed that the façade and the exterior of the lift was in a situation of mess: there were overturned concrete tiles and exposed old cement: it does not take a rocket scientist here in Singapore to give one word to this seemingly chaotic situation: estate upgrading!

Changing of blogger domain from .com to .sg

With some time on my hand tonight, I do everything quite slowly, surfing the internet before the commencement of yet another week. It was only through such leisure that I took a closer look at my blog address. I was a bit surprised! My website URL now became http://singaporeshortstories.blogspot.sg/ instead of http://singaporeshortstories.blogspot.com!

Rober Kiyosaki earns $2 million passive income monthly

While Singaporeans have been lamenting about the huge annual ministerial salaries drawn by our Ministers averaging $1 million to $3 million before the recent revision and the envy at the huge paychecks in the excess of over $10 million dollars drawn by CEO of blue-chip companies; today I read that Robert Kiyosaki earns $2 million dollars a month whether or not he works.

The Old Chang Kee Plastic Bag

I bought a curry puff from Old Chang Kee this morning before taking the train. A curry puff from Old Chang Kee now costs $1.30. I still remembered the time when it cost only $0.80, after which the price went up, up and up to $1, $1.20 , all the way to its current price.
