Andy Ong of ERC –The Sunday Times Interview

I read the interview report with Mr Andy Ong of ERC in yesterday’s The Sunday Times. I have attended Andy’s Ong free seminar talks before and I walked away, feeling impressed at this self-made multi-millionaire. It is hence very natural for me to find out more about Andy by digesting the interview article within minutes.

SUPER HOT WEATHER!

I am perspiring this minute as I blog. It is super hot tonight as yesterday night. Despite switching on the fan at full blast, I am still coated with sweat in this super hot and humid weather.

These afternoons have not be less hot either. The afternoon sun is so strong that my usually wet toilet floor becomes dry these days.

Delicious and cheap fried chicken wings

Yesterday, my wife and I went to Ikea Tampines. Before our shopping, we went to Ikea eatery and we ordered 6 pieces of crispy fried chicken-wing-cum-drumstick at a price of $1.90 for 2.

Lost in Italy

It was the last day of tour in Italy. After the evening dinner, our tour group was left to roam on the streets, though most of the group headed back to the hotel. The tour guide was especially relaxed today and unlike the earlier days of the tour, he did not ask the tour group to assemble after dinner. I ate my dinner alone and then left the restaurant.

Legoland Malaysia

I loved to play with legos when I was young. With the lego modules, I could build up forms and structures and translate thoughts into reality! Legoland is a theme park with its theme on legos. 1 Foreigner needed every 20 minutes for Singapore

The National Population and Talent Division projected that 25,000 foreigners are needed for Singapore every year if the total fertility rate of Singapore falls below 2.1. This translates to approximately 1 foreigner needed every 20 minutes!

Over the recent years, there has been a surge in the number of socio-political websites on the internet, providing alternative views, perspectives and commentaries of local social and political events of Singapore. Underwater World & Dolphin Lagoon of Sentosa

I have a wonderful time with my wife at Underwater World and Dolphin Lagoon in Sentosa today. This is my second time and my wife's first time at the place of attraction and it has been a great experience.

Central Hong Kong Restaurant Hong Kong Wanton Mee in Vivocity: One of the Best wanton mee I have eaten!

I had a bowl of piping hot, delicious Hong Kong wanton mee in Central Hong Kong restaurant at the basement of Vivocity tonight. I devoured 4 pieces of wanton greedily, each filled with 2 nice minced prawn balls! This dish is now at a promotional price of $4.80.

Not too happy with the new blogger interface

I am now typing this post with the new blogger interface. I have tried not to upgrade to the new template but stick to the old template as the old template is more user-friendly... till today when Blogger stated that the old interface will be changed to the new template in the coming month.

Minister Lui Tuck Yew is gravely concerned about recent spate of MRT breakdowns

Minister Lui Tuck Yew said yesterday he is "gravely concerned" about the recent spate of MRT breakdowns last week. While Minister Lui is "gravely concerned", I have already given up on our local MRT system and have accepted the poor quality of MRT train delivery as a part of the "new normal".

I think Mr Lui can fine the SMRT authorities and ask them to do reports after reports, but it will not solve the problem. The only way for Mr Lui to solve the whole MRT breakdowns is to have a nationalization of the MRT system as I have shared in my post earlier.

Prime Minister Lee sets up Facebook Page: by-election for Hougang and Ang Mo Kio soon?

Singapore's Prime Minister Lee sets up his very own Facebook Page today. I think it is a good move for the Prime Minister to connect to Singaporeans.

On the other hand, I wonder whether Hougang by-election will be called soon with the set-up of a Facebook page by the Prime Minister? Already, there are talks that Ang Mo Kio GRC helmed by Prime Minister Lee will also be put up for a by-election together with Hougang SMC to induct Ong Ye Kung and some go even further to suggest that Hougang SMC may be merged into Ang Mo Kio GRC for the by-election.

Nationalizing MRT services via a new National Transport Board is the only way to stop all MRT breakdown, poor MRT services nonsense!

As the Committee of Inquiry entered into its fourth day of proceedings today; over the past 3 days, there have been several MRT breakdowns which affected thousands. Though I was not one of the affected passengers, nevertheless I experience inconvenience on a daily basis when using the MRT trains. The trains were too crowded to be boarded; the train was moving at such a low speed and halted several times during the destination or it takes such a long time to wait for the next MRT train. All these MRT episodes have really caused so much unhappiness among many Singaporeans –at the very least that’s how I think so- and that includes me.

As of today, the identity of the IT female executive is still yet to be known, with little or no trace of her identity online.

With so many men coming from the public and private sectors being charged in court over sex with a minor-many are reported to have sex with the same 17-year old, part-time model cum student, I hope that the media can publish the photo of the lady though it may be hard to do so as the 17-year old is a minor at the time the crimes are committed.

Lee Lip Hong, the name of the principal, among 43 others charged with having commercial sex with under-18 girl did not come as a surprise to me when his and the names of the other offenders were announced as I have previously came across the possibility of Lee Lip Hong being the one as shared in my earlier post.

I am disappointed to read about some cases of procurement in the public service done non-professionally. In recent years, some departments in the government call themselves "Best Sourcing Department" rather than "Procurement Department". I think there is no need for big words, one should just do the job professionally.

The phrase “New Normal” is coined after the so-called watershed General Election of 2011 which saw the ruling party experience a post-independence low of 60%. Many attributed this New Normal in Singapore to the growing desire for diversity especially our youths on the back of an increasing internet-savvy nation.

I have no prejudice against smokers; it is just that I find the worst invention ever by human is the cigarette. A cigarette harms the health of not only the smoker but also the people around the smoker. In my case, my family and I have to endure the passive smoke emanated by my neighbours all around despite having closed the windows tightly. A smoker can also save thousands of dollars just by giving up smoking.

I am not impressed by the Transport Minister’s speech in Parliament yesterday which seem to imply that the breakdowns in MRT services are become something that should be expected given the growing complexity of the MRT network of Singapore.

Staying Healthy in this society

I ate Mcdonalds today as a result of "no choice". Faced with the msg-laden food sold at other stalls at around $3 or $4, I decided Mcdonalds $4.50 value meal is a better proposition.

Mirror Mirror

I watched the movie "Mirror Mirror" with my wife at a Golden Village cinema today. It is an excellent movie. The plot is unlike that of the original Snow White Story. The plot is hilarious, touching and original. The animation graphic is excellent.

Today, as I was walking on level one of a heartland shopping centre, I saw Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew in a short-sleeved shirt and a three-quarter pants holding a bottle of mineral water walking in the direction opposite me.

There was a recent incident in which a commuter on a SMRT train found himself/herself scalded by an unknown liquid on the seat he/she has taken. Today, as I entered the MRT train, I and some commuters were shocked to see a small patch on blood on a seat. I took the vacant seat next to this stained seat.

of Getting Married and Starting a Family

Today is the second day of long weekend. For international readers, in Singapore a long weekend is defined as a continual stretch of rest days, normally from Friday to Sunday. Before this current long weekend, I have made a list of tasks to complete, however as the long weekend comes, I find myself very busy with my family and children, hence there is not much of a personal time to do my tasks.

I read in the newspapers that Singapore is the happiest country in South East Asia. I am not sure about the ranking methodology but as far as I know, Singapore is the most affluent country in the South East Asia and if the ranking equates affluence with happiness, then I think the correlation may not be really accurate.

Yes, our country may be the most affluent country in the region but does that really make Singaporeans the happiest in the region? As a Singaporean, yes, I am contented with the good quality of life here and the modern and comfortable amenities of our country but I am not too happy with life here for the following reasons:

NTUC Fairprice receipt

I believe many people are very familiar with the innocuous NTUC Fairprice receipt. That particular slip of paper which is generated every time a purchase is done at the NTUC Fairprice supermarkets. I would just want to know how much money is spent on generating each of these Fairprice receipts? The cost may not be small as printed at the back of each receipt are coloured snapshots of selected items sold at the Supermarkets.

Titanic in 3D

The blockbuster “Titanic” was screened more than a decade ago but now this thriller is making a comeback to movie screens in 3D. I think this movie will still receive record viewership despite it being an old flim.

Table Tennis: Singapore vs China

I watched the Championship finals between China and Singapore. Though I have not much confidence that our team can win our superior opponent, I was very disappointed that our local team did not win even a single set!

Words, oral or written have consequences. Sometimes, I am not careful with words which lead to undesired circumstances. Words, written also will have consequences. As reported, the police seem to have tracked down those who disseminated baseless SMS of alleged kidnapping cases.
