One way the government can better connect with Singaporeans is for the media to stop addressing politicians fielded from the Military with the title "Major-General"or "Brigadier General".
True, Chan Chun Sing and Tan Chun-Jin were Generals before but since they have entered politics and started serving Singaporeans, the media, in its reporting should just address both of them with "Mr." This will connect better with Singaporeans as it is not the military arena that the duo are managing.
