5th Body Found at Bedok Reservoir: a suicide fad?

Another body, the 5th in recent weeks, was found in Bedok Reservoir yesterday! I think it is bad news for the residents living nearby, and of course bad news to MP Low Thia Khiang who has just taken over the area after May's watershed General Election.

I used to jog at Bedok Reservoir regularly. The park is scenic, rustic and jogging one full jog around the park elevates one's elements and improves one's stamina. The National Water Agency, PUB and National Parks have also bold plans for Bedok Reservoir, some of which were completed: like a platform to bring residents closer to the waters, canoeing in reservoirs, Berlin Wall (a piece, courtesy of ex MP George Yeo) and more.

I think the drownings in Bedok Reservoir will mar interest in the new condos launch around that area as now Bedok Reservoir may have earned a notorious reputation.

The drownings in Bedok Reservoir, in my opinion, is like a suicide fad, similar to the fad of people jumping onto the MRT tracks to commit suicide some years back. The jumping of people onto MRT tracks has galvanized SMRT to install safety barriers on MRT platforms which are above ground.

It may be good for media not to overpublicise another case of drowning in Bedok Reservoir should the unfortunate incident were to occur. Imitiation of people's acts by others is human instinct.
